Questions about the program
How long does the full program take?
The full ILI 4-level training program can be completed in as little as one month for qualifying students.
However, Texas uses a progressive licensing system. TDLR must issue each license before you can move forward with the requirements for the next level.
Because TDLR processing can take approximately two weeks per upgrade, your training may be completed before your entire licensing process is complete.
In short: your ILI training can move quickly, but your state licensing timeline may take longer.
Is the program online, or do I have to come to the school?
ILI's program is hybrid, giving you the flexibility of online learning while still providing essential hands-on experience.
Each level requires approximately 1–2 days in person, while the remaining coursework is completed virtually and at your own pace.
Our Continuing Education program offers even more flexibility and can be completed either virtually or in person.
Please note: Certain grant-funded and military education programs may require a specific number of in-person classroom hours. If you enroll through one of these programs, the hybrid schedule may be adjusted as necessary to ensure compliance with the applicable program requirements.
Do I need to be an esthetician or have previous experience to enroll?
No previous experience is required.
You do not have to be an esthetician, cosmetologist, nurse, or other beauty or medical professional to begin your laser training.
Our program is designed to teach you the fundamentals you need to enter the field, even if you are starting from scratch.
TDLR's Apprentice-in-Training requirements begin with completion of an approved 40-hour laser hair removal training program.

THE TEXAS LICENSING PATHWAY
Understanding the licensing process
Which levels do I need to complete before I can work as a Laser Hair Removal Technician?
You will need to complete Levels 1 and 2 to reach the Laser Hair Removal Technician level.
Level 1 prepares you to apply for your Apprentice-in-Training certificate.
After receiving your Apprentice-in-Training certificate, you complete the required supervised procedures. Once those requirements are met, you can apply to upgrade to the Technician level.
Your ILI pathway then continues:
Level 1 → Apprentice-in-Training
↓
Level 2 → Laser Hair Removal Technician
↓
Level 3 → Senior Laser Hair Removal Technician
↓
Level 4 → Professional Laser Hair Removal Technician
Do I need hands-on experience to become licensed?
Yes.
After receiving your Apprentice-in-Training certificate, you must complete 100 laser hair removal procedures under the direct supervision of a Senior Laser Hair Removal Technician or Laser Hair Removal Professional before you can apply to become a Technician.
You must properly document these procedures and submit them to TDLR as part of your license upgrade.
What does “100 supervised treatments” actually mean?
It does not mean 100 different clients or 100 separate appointments.
The requirement is based on documented laser hair removal procedures/treatment areas.
Approximately 3–4 full-body laser sessions can equal 100 treatments, depending on the treatment areas documented.
All treatments must be completed under the required supervision and properly documented for your TDLR license upgrade.
Do I have to bring my own models?
Not initially.
ILI provides your first two models so you can begin your hands-on training without having to find someone yourself.
After that, you will be responsible for providing additional models based on the number of procedures you still need to complete.
Do I need a medical director to work as a laser professional in Texas?
Yes. Texas requires certain laser professionals to work under the appropriate medical oversight.
Do you provide resources or guidance for finding a medical director?
Yes. We provide resources and guidance to help students understand the role of a medical director, including what to look for and considerations when establishing that professional relationship.

TRAINING & COST
Fees, payment options and lasers
Will I learn how to work with more than one type of laser?
Yes.
ILI currently provides training on both Alexandrite (ALEX) and Nd:YAG laser technologies.
This gives students experience with two important laser technologies used for laser hair removal and helps you understand how treatment protocols differ across skin types.
How much are the TDLR licensing fees in addition to tuition?
TDLR licensing fees are paid directly to the State of Texas and are separate from ILI tuition.
Based on the current fees provided by ILI:
- Apprentice-in-Training: $50
- Technician: $70
- Senior Technician: $100
- Professional: $150
That's a total of $370 if completing all four levels.
Tuition and state licensing fees are separate expenses.
Do you offer financing or payment plans?
Yes.
ILI offers several ways to make tuition more manageable, including:
- Interest-free internal payment plans at no additional cost
- Cherry financing
- Klarna financing, with interest-free options potentially available depending on eligibility
- Scholarship opportunities for students who qualify
Payment-plan and financing eligibility may vary.

CAREER & BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES
Where your training can take you
Can I start my own laser hair removal business after completing the program?
Yes — but you must reach the appropriate licensing level.
Levels 1–3 allow you to work in laser facilities such as med spas, clinics, and physician offices, but they do not allow you to independently operate your own laser hair removal facility.
Level 4 — Laser Hair Removal Professional is the level designed for those who want to advance into facility ownership and higher-level oversight.
The business itself must also obtain a TDLR Laser Hair Removal Facility Certificate, and Texas has additional facility, personnel, consulting physician, and equipment requirements.
Do you give us resources for the machines (where to buy them etc)?
Yes. ILI provides resources and guidance to help you understand what to look for when purchasing laser equipment.
